Okay, about this Sewing Sunday thing. I do love everything creative - everybody knows that, but I mostly spend my time drawing, painting and making jewelry. I also like to sew, but I have to admit - I'm more of an artist than a sewist. Oh I learned to do a little sewing growing up; my mom was a seamstress -she did work for interior decorators in the 70's and 80's making drapes, bedspreads, you name it. She even made some things for Jackie Onassis and Neal Sedaka! But....that was Mom, not me. I was too busy being a teenager to sew! Well, when I grew up and got married and moved to Florida, I began teaching myself to sew a little more. Mom helped long distance over the phone the best she could - this was waaaay before the internet, cell phones and digital cameras. All this to say, I am self taught when it comes to sewing as well as art, so I still have a lot to learn. Plus, I am too impatient to do things by the book and I always want something that doesn't exist in a pattern, so I improvise! Sometimes I use a little of this pattern and a little of that one, or sometimes I make my own. No wonder we never have tissue paper when I go to wrap gifts! So, enough of the back story - today I wanted a new top and I had some white crinkle cotton that I'd been saving for just the right moment. I took out a tank top that I have and traced around it onto my tissue paper ( it's aqua), had to do a little piecing together, cut out my fabric and set to work and Voila! A new summer top!
What do you like to do on Sunday? Have you sewn anything lately? Please comment - let us know what you've been up !
Here it is - my new top!
Here is a mini messenger bag I made another time.
I'm a wife, mother and artist - lover of all things creative! This is a place to share about art and life - past, present and future: growing up in the 60's and 70's, having (almost) finished raising kids, and of course, sharing my journey into the world of art!
